Sponsor a Ministry Day Program: Want to support Lutheran Campus Ministry in a very special way?

Make a donation of $150 or more to help us cover our program and maintenance costs and we’ll share your support by acknowledging that contribution on our Web site, Face Book page and in our weekly communications to students, staff, alumni and community friends. Honor a loved one, celebrate an anniversary, birthday or remember someone in honorarium. The possibilities are endless. To participate, give Marcia Parkkonen, Ministry Associate a call at 906-228-8033 or email her at nmulutheranselca@gmail.com.

At Lutheran Campus Ministry, we have a small budget that takes care of our needs, but it is lean and mean. We are often asked, “How can I help? Or what do you need?” Donations of any of the following would help us stretch our budget. Please feel free to call Marcia Parkkonen, Ministry Associate, or Jon Magnuson, Campus Pastor, at 906-228-8033 for any questions you may have. Thank you for checking out our wish list.

We are seeking funds for new office computers as our current ones are outdated and can’t support the latest technologies. We are unable to accept donations of used computers or printers. However, if you’d like to make a contribution toward the purchase of new ones, please include a note on any donation you make.

Lothlorien

“Where Time Passes Differently”

The name Lothlorien is a reference to a mythological kingdom in JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Tolkien (1892-1973) was a linguist and professor of language at Oxford University, a devout Christian, and translator of the New Jerusalem Bible.

Lothlorien is mysterious and powerful, a place of magic. This is not a magic that changes men and women into frogs or turns the grass blue but is a spark that burns deep within the soul. It’s a mystic kingdom that rests in the heart of all truly free people. Lothlorien is full of grace and beauty, a place that its inhabitants seek fiercely to preserve. Lothlorien is a kingdom of gentle goodness, but also hardiness and dignity.

Lothlorien provided a memory of goodness for a tiny Hobbit Frodo Baggins who, along with Gandalf and his faithful companions, was able to save the world with the strength he gathered there.

The Lutheran Campus Ministry selected to name this home Lothlorien with the hope that it will be, for all who pass through, an invitation to imagination and compassion; a place where one will find a hunger for justice in this world. Most of all, we intend this home to be a place of prayer where real issues of life and faith, of what is temporal and what is eternal, will be discerned and honored. Great adventures will be born here. Young men and women will be transformed. This place where time passes differently.
